Meat is the one item that rarely has coupons. Meat also hikes up our grocery bills because it cost the most per item. The best way to lower this cost is to purchase meat on sale. Whenever you are in the store and you see a manager's special, purchase at least 3 packs of meat instead of just one. 

Southern savers website is a great resource to find out what meat is on sale. New grocery store sales usually start on Wednesday or Thursday. Southern Savers post the new grocery store sales at least one day before the sale starts. Use the site to plan your meals based on what is on sale for that week. If you use the site, you will already know what meat is on sale before you make your trip to the store.

Go to your favorite local grocery store and ask what days they place their meat on sale. They may even give you the exact time and day each meat item goes on sale. It pays to be more informed about the inner workings of your local grocery store. 


You have to get into meal planning now, as in right now! Meal planning has so many benefits. It saves you time and money. It is a magic pill to a better week. When you know what you are going to eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner it relieves a lot of unnecessary stress. You are not waiting to the day of to decide what's for dinner and still have to buy the items from the grocery store. If you work outside of the home, having a prepared lunch will save on extra expenditures. If you plan ahead, you will save money and hopefully make better dietary choices.   • You need to do an inventory check list to make sure you don't already have items on the list in your pantry. We spend lots of money buying items we already have at home because we didn't allow time to check inventory.In addition, most people spend less at the grocery store if they stick to a list.
  • Make sure your list includes food for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and don't forget snacks. If you try to make an on the spot decision in the store you are less likely to make a smart financial decision.
